Reviews Six major review articles focusing on 1) the multiple effects of the intestinal hormone Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) which acts through its G-protein coupled receptor to stimulate insulin secretion (MacDonald et al., Diabetes), 2) regulation of voltage-dependent K+ channels (MacDonald and Wheeler, Diabetologia), 3) b-cell glucose sensing (MacDonald et al., Phil Trans Roy Soc B), 4) a primer on b-cell function, oscillations and intercellular coupling (MacDonald and Rorsman, PLoS Biol), 5) a review on single vesicle exo– and endocytosis (MacDonald and Rorsman, Physiology), and 6) a review on the regualtion of pancreatic alpha-cell glucagon secretion (Rorsman et al,. Trends Endocrinol Metab).
Collaborative work We enjoy collaborations with several groups, both locally, nationally and internationally. Current collaborators at the University of Alberta include Drs. Peter Light and Simonetta Sippione in the Department of Pharmacology and Drs. Ron Gill and Gina Rayat in the Alberta Diabetes Institute. We also enjoy productive collaboration with the groups of Drs. Mike Wheeler, Patricia Brubaker and Herbert Gaisano at the University of Toronto, Dr. Bruce Verchere and Michael Hayden at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Patrik Rorsman in Oxford, and Dr. Paolo Madeddu in Bristol. |
